So, what’s your bounce rate?

 In Blog

A bounce rate represents the percentage of your web visitors who arrive and “bounce” (immediately leave the site) without visiting any other pages in your site. If you don’t already, you can track your site’s bounce rate (along with a myriad of other site stats) thru Google Analytics.

A high bounce rate can sometimes be good, but more often than not, anything over 60% is cause for concern. From a customer perspective it can translate to: Get me outta here!

So how can you fix a high bounce rate? Here are a few ideas:

  • an engaging homepage layout that’s simple to navigate and instantly telegraphs that 10-second elevator speech to your visitor
  • fresh, fresh content – there’s nothing more depressing than a stale site (stay fresh thru timely updates to an on-site blog, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, eblasts, or any other social media)
  • content that’s well-worded and contains terms that your visitor will be typing into a search engine in order to locate your site (don’t unintentionally mislead visitors)
  • Have a call to action (or a well-chosen few) clearly laid out on the homepage to drive traffic to the sweet spot of your site

And remember that it’s an ongoing process. As your business grows and changes and you tackle exciting new possibilities, it’s vitally important to let that big world out there know just how special you are.
